What the Dread Axe does
The Dread Axe is a heavy secondary weapon rather than a main sword. CGMagazine describes winding up the attack as the weapon gathers force, then bringing it down in a powerful blow. Several October hands-on reports emphasise its utility against enemy guard as well as its satisfying impact.
This is a timing and commitment tool: charging for more power also means choosing a moment where an enemy cannot freely interrupt you. We do not publish exact charge frames or guard-break values without retail tests.
How to get it
TheSixthAxis, CGMagazine and 4Gamer independently report gaining the Dread Axe by beating Peng Meng, the Axemaster in the first chapter of their press builds. This provides a clear boss-reward link, although the precise checkpoint and any optional route requirements must still be recorded from the release game.
How to use it for exploration
The same weapon can cut through chains that secure certain obstacles in the world. If a chained door or passage is inaccessible before the Peng Meng fight, note it and return with the axe equipped. Using one tool for both combat and environmental puzzles is part of the game’s Metroidvania-influenced progression.
The preview establishes that some chains are breakable, not that every visually similar chain or barricade can be destroyed. A verified location-by-location list will be added after launch.
Pairings and upgrade choices
S-GAME explicitly encourages changing weapons and builds when an enemy’s defenses create a problem. The axe’s reported ability to break guards suggests pairing it with a quicker primary weapon for follow-up attacks may be worth testing, but the exact optimal combo has not yet been measured.
Remaining unknowns
Detailed damage scaling, control mappings on PC, cooldowns, item description text and other reward conditions are not yet confirmed.
